Local pharmacist Edwin Lee is also a Tsawwassen Rotarian so he has a built-in partnership for community service projects.
Rotarians jumped into action to offer a day-long flu and covid vaccine clinic which was held in the lobby beside the Tsawwassen Pharmacy on Saturday, Oct. 21
The date of the clinic was chosen to be just in advance of World Polio Day and donations towards Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign were accepted.
Rotary Club Foundation chair Benno Bucher confirms that 333 vaccinations were administered to people who attended and thanked everyone who came and donated.
“Since 1988, we’ve seen a 99.9 per cent worldwide reduction in polio cases, but we can’t stop until the entire world has been polio free for three years,” Bucher said.
“Rotary is always looking to be of service in a substantive way and we were pleased that this effort to support community health had a great turn out,” added Rotary Club of Tsawwassen president Yvonne Anderson. “The benefits extend even further as donations from the clinic totaled $5,838 which will be matched 2:1 with funds from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which adds up to $17,514. This is a significant contribution to the effort to eradicate polio around the world.”
